I think one of the biggest things I hear from people is that they want to eat healthy they just don’t have the time to shop, prep and cook healthy meals on a consistent basis. As a trainer we hear the same thing when it comes to working out…I just don’t have time. I’m not motivated to get up so early, I’m tired. Hey, I get it. We all need more time.
Here are a few tips to create time in your day and help you put healthy food on the table. I know for me they have been lifesavers.
Kroger Clicklist is awesome!! I don’t care where you shop, if they have a pick up service use it. Bam! Free time right there in your pocket. Any time I can save an hour on errands, that’s free time for me. Me time! to run, walk, play outside. Free time for you! Whatever you like to do. If I have healthy food in the house, I’m going to make a good choice. I just need to make sure it gets to my house. Otherwise don’t we all get lazy and just do take out for our families.
Guess what? The pick up service actually saves you money even with the service fee. Bonus. So now you get FREE money back in your pocket as well. Think about it. You plan your list at home and then you drive up and they put it in the car. No impulse purchases. No “I see I want purchases”. Well I am a pretty disciplined person and I didn’t think I was spending extra money everytime I went to the store. I can see it every week on my mac when I place my orders and let me tell you, I’m saving an average $40-50/week. I check my amex statement over a 6 month period compared to before the service and saved $1150.00. Real money.
Next tip: Rotisserie Chicken from the Store is your friend. Don’t waste time cooking your own chicken. The rotisserie chicken from Costco or your local Kroger is delicious. You can carve it up and make several meals out of it. You can slather it up the next day with homemade greek yogurt ziziki sauce for a whole new flavor. Slice it up for healthy sandwiches. I like to chop mine in chunks of white meat and serve it with the Taylor Made Kale Salad Kit. ( sold at Kroger and Target) We sometime eat the same salad with cooked Salmon. It’s delicious. This is a healthier choice than processed cold cuts that contain various chemical compounds that are not naturally present in fresh meat. Many of these compounds are harmful to health and cause inflammation in our bodies. For this reason, eating a lot of processed meat products for a long period (years or decades) may increase the risk of chronic disease, especially cancer. Fresh meat is a better choice.
I would love to know your favorite quick and easy meals. Feel free to share your time saving tips as well.
Keep moving forward,
