Inactivity Tied to Diabetes and Why you should care.

There were so many eye opening things I learned from my Health Coach training. Diabetes is literally an epidemic in our country and we have to change the ways we process and provide and consume our food in this country. Did you know our children have a lower life expectancy than we do? I did actually know you can start to loose endurance as an athletes after only one week but Did you know it only takes 2 weeks of inactivity to hasten diabetes onset in seniors?

Studies show that 2 weeks of physical inactivity can trigger full-blown diabetes in seniors with prediabetes. It is vitally important that we add MOVEMENT as a daily routine for a lifetime of health and wellness. I say movement because I know not everyone is jazzed about a workout routine. So just know there are all kinds of ways to MOVE our bodies that are not actually considered traditional ways to exercise. So get creative and if you like to dance, turn up the music and DANCE for goodness sakes.
As we get older, physical exercise becomes more and more important. Aerobic activity and strength training have been shown to improve the psychological well-being of elderly people, even just a few minutes of light exercise can increase cardio health and improve brain function.
A lack of physical activity can lead to diabetes in seniors who are already vulnerable to the condition. Diabetes is one of the biggest health issues in American history, and it’s affecting more people as the population grows. As of 2015, the CDC says more than 30 million Americans have some form of diabetes. Around 25 percent of those 65 and older have diabetes according to the CDC. These are astronomical numbers. Diabetes to tracking to be the seventh leading cause of death worldwide by 2030. And because so many people have it, it’s now a financial burden for Americans. The cost of diabetes diagnoses was estimated at $245 billion. WOW! That’s a lot of money for a disease that has been proven to be preventable by changes in Lifestyle and Diet.
So what can you do about it? Eat Healthy REAL foods and MOVE more. Cut back on Sugars any way you can. The benefits of physical activity have long been praised, but what are the effects of physical inactivity? New studies have shown that being sedentary actually harms brain health and raises the risk of diabetes and dementia in seniors, it’s no longer just about being fit to fat. This is about your Health and Quality of LIFE.
