Activity & Recipe from Week 1
LEAN Start Activity: Grocery Ad Cut and Paste
Materials:
8×11 Red, Green, Yellow Paper
Several Grocery Store Ad Flyers
Glue Sticks and Scissors
Explain kids should cut out green light, yellow light and red light foods and glue them to proper colored paper. Once they are done have them take turns presenting the papers and why they chose each item for each color. Review the project with your kids and have fun with them.
Next level: buy colored stickers and work with them to identify all the food in your pantry as Red, Yellow or Green. Take them with you to the store and identify food you choose each week. Try to replace current red and or yellow light family staples with healthier choice options.
Weekly Recipe: Portable Pizza ( made easy in Toaster)
Ingredients: Whole Grain English Muffin, Pizza Sauce ( or canned tomato paste) * check for added sugar, shredded mozzarella or parmesan cheese, optional add a few spinach leaves.
Spread 3 tbsp sauce on English muffin, sprinkle 2 tbsp cheese over spinach, toast until cheese melts and serve warm. Easy Peasy!
